Rep. Ehlers Joins National Service
Congressional Caucus as Co-Chair
On May 8, 2009, Representative Vernon Ehlers (R-MI) announced that he would be joining the National Service Congressional Caucus in the House of Representatives as its fourth co-chair. Rep. Ehlers is a former educator and a senior member of the House Education and Labor Committee. He joins Representatives David Price (D-NC), Todd Platts (R-PA), and Doris Matsui (D-CA) in leading the Caucus in the House. The Senate Caucus co-chairs remain Senators Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Thad Cochran (R-MS).

Growing Bipartisan Support
for National Service
On February 12, 2008, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) announced the newly formed National Service Congressional Caucus in the Senate. Senator Hilary Clinton (D-NY), Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), and Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) immediately joined their colleagues on the caucus. The Senate now unites with the House of Representatives, which first established a National Service Caucus on September 14, 2004.
The National Service Congressional Caucus is a bipartisan group of legislators dedicated to raising awareness of national service and expanding service opportunities for all Americans. The Caucus leadership has circulated letters inviting their colleagues to join.
